Soundgarden
Telephantasm
4 stars

The problem with "best of" compilations is that many fans will already own the band's albums and have all the good songs loaded on iTunes.
That's where these mega-packages come in.
Two discs with 24 songs (they didn't even release 24 singles) and a DVD with 20
music videos including 13 not previously released - this is the Soundgarden mother lode.
The earlier content is a lot more raw although the funk of Fopp will surprise newer fans.
It was the polished 90s albums where Soundgarden outshone contemporaries, as seen here with singles off Badmotorfinger, Superunknown and Down on the Upside.
But it would have been nice to have originals of tracks like Jesus Christ Pose and Pretty Noose World rather than live performances.
