A national roadshow, launched to gauge tourism operators' views ahead of the general election in November, will be in Rotorua next month.
The Tourism Industry Association is inviting operators to attend the roadshow, at one of the 10 centres visited in the next two months, to discuss the challenges they face,
their priorities for the future and potential solutions.
Chief executive Tim Cossar said feedback from the events would create a clear direction for the tourism industry in the next three years and beyond.
"Above all, we want to keep tourism and its contribution to New Zealand's economy firmly on the Government agenda, both during the election campaign and after."
He said the last two to three years had been among the most challenging the tourism industry had faced and it was crucial for the sector to be clear about its strategy and direction.
"We want to look at where the industry sees itself in five, 10 or even 20 years' time. Rugby World Cup 2011 is a major event for the whole industry, but we need a plan to capitalise on the opportunities it offers."
Information collected will be discussed by the chief executives of New Zealand's biggest tourism operators in May, then reported at a tourism political summit in Wellington on July 13.
The association will use the information to form its 2011 election manifesto.
Rotorua will host the roadshow on Wednesday, March 30, from 9am-1pm. To register, visit
