You don't have to love exercise, you just have to recognise that it's necessary to feeling good - and you have to make time for it.
Go360 shop and cafe owner Molly Chattell stepped up at short notice to address the Administration Professionals' Day breakfast at the Blue Baths yesterday morning, talking about her journey from couch potato to a business woman juggling work, exercise, hobbies and family.
Her journey started during her OE in London, where she decided to build a career in the administrative sector.
She recorded 86 per cent errors in her typing test with a temping agency, so she was surprised to be given a short-term job before she had time to buy proper work clothes. Chattell turned up to her new job in jeans and sneakers and, two hours in, rang her boss to say there was something drastically wrong with her keyboard.
"That was the day I discovered the number lock key!"
But she persevered and succeeded in her career and in her personal life, having been convinced by her personal trainer husband that exercise was "a necessary evil" and something she had to fit into her lifestyle to feel better and work better.
Chattell was one of more than 220 administrative professionals who gathered for the celebration of administrators in Rotorua.
Association of Administrative Professionals of New Zealand Rotorua president Lee-Anne Thompson, of Rotorua Energy Trust, told The Daily Post the local event was one of the best attended in New Zealand.
"We even outdo the likes of Auckland and Wellington, which is great."
Thompson said the organisation provided a strong network for administrators to brainstorm ideas, resolve problems and offer support to each other.
"Everybody is very passionate - there is such enthusiasm and motivation."
The local branch meets twice a month - the second Wednesday of the month is strictly business and the fourth Wednesday is for socialising and networking.
