ONLINE POLL: GST and online shopping

Retailers' Association chief executive John Albertson is calling on the Government to invest in research on collecting GST on goods bought online from offshore businesses.

He says shoppers are going into stores to try things on or make use of the expertise of local retailers and then heading home to buy online from offshore sites. If their goods are worth less than $400, they save the 15 per cent GST New Zealand businesses must charge.
