Her friend, Adrienne Whitewood, had recently opened her own design store on Eruera St and told Mrs White the shop next door was up for lease.
The Whites saw it and signed up straightaway.
"It give us an opportunity to set up a shop in town and see how it goes," she said. "It's another new adventure ... I like adventures."
The lavender adventure began 14 years ago when the Whites owned a recycled furniture business in Levin.
They grew lavender as it looked nice with the furniture, selling some of it on the side.
Then, with the growth in imported furniture affecting the business and family and friends loving the lavender products, their lavender business took over.
They also discovered the natural products worked wonders for their daughter, who was born with eczema - their Dana R. Collection is named after her.
Mrs White taught herself to make more and more products, taking a couple of classes and Googling ingredients.
With the move to the Horohoro farm, they set up a website to sell the products to regular customers left behind.
Mrs White said feedback on the move so far was encouraging - curious shoppers kept wandering in this week while they were trying to set up the shop.
She said people liked the idea of being able to buy direct from the person who made the product.
Mrs White plans to work in the store, with help from her daughter and teenage sons, while her husband keeps the farm going.
"It's a real family business."
