Desert Rd reopens after snow and ice closure

Update:

Desert Rd State Highway 1 has reopened. NZ Transport Agency said the road was open with winter driving conditions. Please take extra care whilst driving in this area.

Earlier:
Snow and ice and has closed the Desert Rd this morning.

NZ Transport Agency said the road was closed at 1am due to snow and ice and it remained closed this morning.

Motorists should follow the detour via State Highway 4, SH49, SH46, SH47 and allow extra time.

There is no snow falling currently and motorists are asked to be patient while crews worked to reopen the road.
