A warrant issued for the arrest of Rotorua fashion designer Kharl Wirepa has now been withdrawn after he appeared before a judge in the Rotorua District Court earlier this afternoon. Wirepa, 27, was supposed to appear in the Rotorua Registrar's Court at 9am today but he failed to appear, instead writing to the court asking for an adjournment.

Prosecuting Sergeant Steve Coleman rejected his request and a warrant was issued by the registrar.

Wirepa appeared in the Rotorua District Court before Judge Greg Hollister-Jones about 1pm today and the judge withdrew the warrant.

Wirepa has now been remanded on bail to reappear at another registrar's hearing on June 12.

He has not entered pleas to three charges, including that on April 27 he allegedly assaulted a woman he was in a family relationship with and intentionally damaged household items belonging to the same woman on the same date. He also faces a charge of breaching bail on May 9.
