Old Girls continued their unbeaten season with a 5-0 win over Hikurangi in their Hickey Northland premier women's hockey match on Saturday.

Now with seven wins from seven matches, Old Girls have a clear lead on the table over the rest of the pack.

But Old Girls coach Alan Lints says there are no easy games this season.

"It's exciting this year, every team is having a crack and even when you're up with a quarter to go it's not game over," he said.

Old Girls have, however, consistently found a way to win with their ability to convert goal opportunities when they get them.

With the luxury of a full squad of 16, Lints says every player, young and more experienced, are contributing this year.

Their win over Hikurangi sees Old Girls go eight points clear at the top of the table.

In the other premier women's game on Saturday, Springfield secured second spot on the table with a 2-0 win over Whangārei Girls' High School.

Maungakaramea had the bye and move into third spot ahead of WGHS with only six points separating second to fourth places.

In the premier men's competition, Maungakaramea retained their top spot by beating Bream Bay 2-0 in the Friday night match.

They are just one win ahead of Mangapai, who had the bye but remain in second.

Fourth placed Whangārei Boys' High School battled to a 3-all draw against third placed Springfield on Saturday, scoring in the final minutes to stay within touching distance on the table.
