Ms Barchard said far too many young people were taking their own lives and a community-wide approach was needed to solve the issue.
She said Saturday's event, which starts at 11am, would have stalls and information from government and non-government organisations to provide information and help to those attending.
But the day was also about having some fun and creating a positive environment for people to talk about issues affecting them.
Ms Barchard was motivated to organise the event after losing a friend to suicide and reading how large the problem was in Northland.
''There have been a lot of suicides and I want to help get the conversation going and get people to open up. There are a lot of places to help people overcome these issues, but not everybody knows who they are and how to get help,'' she said.
''Suicide is an issue that hasn't been talked about, yet it keeps happening, and it's getting worse. I want people to start talking more openly about it and make sure people get access to the right services they need. It's a subject that many people in Whangarei will have experienced - and we all seem to know somebody who has been directly affected - so we need to come together to deal with it.''
All money raised for the day would go to the Youth Space, which, she said, provided free healthcare, hot meals and a safe space for youth of Whangarei.
