Whangārei District Council is working to fix a traffic-light fault at the Te Kamo and State Highway 1 intersection.

The fault caused heavy traffic through Te Kamo and Whau Valley this morning.

A council spokeswoman said the problem was caused by a digital communications failure.

“The intersection will give priority to the state highway and people will experience [queues] on Kamo Road and Whau Valley.”

“The fault is not an easy fix we are hoping to have it resolved later today.”

The council has said in a post online it will update the public when there is a timeframe for the repair.

SH1 Te Kamo Bypass was closed between Great North Rd and Kamo Rd from 7pm yesterday to 5am this morning for streetlight replacement.

New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and Whangārei District Council have been contacted directly for comment.
