A teenager allegedly involved in the aggravated robbery of an Ōtangarei superette will appear in court today.

Police say the 17-year-old male was taken into custody without incident yesterday after officers executed a search warrant at a property in Te Kamo.

The youth has been charged with aggravated robbery and unlawfully getting into a vehicle, for which he is scheduled to make an initial appearance in the Whangārei Youth Court today.

Police say they will be opposing bail.

Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer, of Whangārei, said the alleged incident at the Jack St Superette last Thursday is believed to have been one of a series of aggravated robberies targeting dairies over recent weeks.

“It’s pleasing to be able to share this update with the community,” he said. Police acknowledged the community’s support during their investigations.

“Police particularly thank dairy owners and staff who have shown patience while our investigation was carried out.”

He had a message for others involved in the alleged offending: “These cowardly acts will not be tolerated in our community, and we will leave no stone unturned to hold you accountable.”
