A school farm where young Northlanders are prepared for careers in agriculture is appealing for the return of a stolen tractor.

The near-new John Deere 6100D was stolen from the Northland College farm in Kaikohe in the early evening of Thursday, October 4.

It was last seen about 7pm heading up Broadway towards Taheke, possibly followed by a green and silver Isuzu Bighorn.

Farm manager Bruce Anderson said about 25 students were currently studying on the farm as part of the school's agriculture trade academy.

The theft of the tractor would make it difficult to carry out farm work such as feeding out, topping pastures and gorse spraying.

Sergeant Dylan Robinson, of Kaikohe police, said the tractor had been captured a number of times on CCTV as it left the farm via Quarry Rd then headed up Broadway. Those images had provided police with good leads.

He appealed to anyone who knew about the theft, or where the tractor was now, to call Kaikohe police on (09) 405 2960 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

The tractor is green with a yellow sunroof, is in near-new condition and has a front-end loader. It is worth between $80,000 and $100,000.
