Tamea Ross of Whangaruru 1.

In the first week of the premier reserve finals format, Hora Hora 1 reversed their result from last week with a 42-38 win over Manawanui Development.

This gives them the bye next week leading into the finals the following week.

Manawanui Development started strongly and led by nine after the first quarter. At halftime, Hora Hora 1 had narrowed the gap to four goals.

By three-quarter time, they led by four and then closed out the match.

Hora Hora 1 goal shoot Manaaki Peri and goal attack Rachel Pilcher were a formidable combination. Angela Wiki (goal keep) and Leah Te Iringa (goal defence) toiled for turnover ball and rebounds.

Midcourt pressure and defence was applied by wing defence Hayley Taylor, centre Marama Flay-Alker and wing attack Kim Neumann.

Tyme Rata, who played at goal shoot and goal attack, was a particularly valuable Manawanui Development asset. Kapua Harris-Otene (goal defence) and Irihaapeti Te Whata (goal keep) combined well.

WGHS 10-1 had a close encounter against Craig's Bridgestone Marist 2 and their win will see them with a chance to play in the final in two weeks' time.

WGHS 10-1 led by two goals at the end of the first quarter and at halftime.

Marist 2 had a great third quarter to take the lead by a goal, only to see WGHS 10-1 have a big final quarter to take the win, 43-36.

For WGHS 10-1, it was a team effort which included a cohesive defensive effort throughout the court to win the game.

Marist 2's Kate Atchison put in a strong effort at centre, while Jessie Musgrove stood out at goal attack and goal shoot.

Whangaruru 1 beat Active Refrigeration Fideliter 2 42-32, but only really sealed the win in the final quarter.

Active Refrigeration Fideliter 2 held a one-goal lead at the end of the first quarter, but by three-quarter time Whangaruru 1 had pulled ahead to lead by four goals.

The Whangaruru 1 goal shoot, Liza Taurua, brought much-needed height to the circle and made a huge difference in the second half.

Fideliter 2 goal keep Abby Hutchinson and goal defence Ruth Prime combined well in defence to disrupt the opposition's play.

Centre Chubby Hale responded to the physical contest to chase down loose ball, while goal shoot Katelyn Gunson stood her ground in the goal circle.
