Man pleads guilty to aggravated robbery

A 19-year-old man has admitted the aggravated robbery of another man who was left with a bloodied face in central Whangarei.

The arrested man appeared in the Whangarei District Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated robbery. He was remanded in custody to appear for sentencing on July 7.

The incident last Wednesday a 36-year-old man was walking through Forum North carpark about 9pm when he was assaulted by four men who demanded money from him.

The injured man stumbled into the Whangarei Club building on Rust Ave where members of the Women's International Newcomers Group ( Wings) were wrapping up their monthly meeting.

The club's members called police and St John Ambulance.

Police are still seeking others who were involved in the aggravated robbery and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident in the Forum North carpark or who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident.
