The victims of an armed robbery at a Kerikeri pub on Tuesday night were tied up by two men carrying a rifle and disguised with ski masks.
About 8.15pm last night two staff, a man and woman, were in the process of closing the Homestead Tavern when they were confronted by two offenders armed with a rifle.
A police spokeswoman said the offenders, who were wearing gloves and ski masks, demanded cash and alcohol.
The victims were tied up and the offenders left with an unspecified quantity of cash and alcohol.
Police were called and a dog was used to track the offenders from the tavern to Butler Rd where the trail stopped.
Police want to hear from anyone who was in Kerikeri last night and saw any suspicious activity.
Northland criminal investigations manager Detective Inspector Kevin Burke said it was particularly worrying for police when offenders were so brazen and had so little regard for public safety.
"So we urge anyone who saw anything or who has any information about this aggravated robbery to come forward."
Police are carrying out area inquiries and a scene examination today.
