Ukulele players and singers were the big winners in the latest allocation of community grants by the Kaikohe-Hokianga Community Board.
The board decided at its September meeting to give Te Kura Taumata o Panguru $800 towards the $5411 cost of taking 24 children to Auckland in December to play inthe New Zealand Ukulele Festival.
It gave Kaikohe East School $248 towards the $495 costs of taking 45 children to Kerikeri's Turner Centre in November to sing in a World Vision Kids for Kids choral concert.
The board also requested that $820 of community grant funds be used to paint a parallel parking space on Broadway and to paint blue an angle parking space on Dickeson St for motorists with mobility permits.
The board declined a community grant request from Te Kura Taumata o Panguru, which sought $3000 to celebrate its 50th jubilee in December.
