THE CENTRE in Kerikeri is launching a series of lunchtime concerts designed to make live music more accessible - as well as raising money to support emerging talent.
The first of the Lunchtime Concerts, tomorrow, will feature well-known jazz pianist Mike Nettmann and up-and-coming saxophone sensation Bryn van Vliet.
The Kerikeri 17-year-old
played in the Bay of Islands Jazz and Blues festival with the band Thelonius Punk and plans to study jazz at Wellington's Victoria University next year.
The concerts will take place on Fridays once a fortnight in the Theatre Bar. Doors open at noon with performances starting at 12.15pm and finishing by 1pm.
Seating is cafe style and patrons can bring their lunch. Tea and coffee will be available.
Entry will be by donation (gold coin or note), with the proceeds used to set up a fund to help develop emerging Northland talent.
The Mike Nettmann and Friends concert will showcase music from a variety of genres with wide audience appeal.
Musicians keen to present a programme at one of the Lunchtime Concerts can call The Centre on (09) 407-0260 or email ops@centakeri.com.
