Nearly three weeks after time ran out on an eviction notice given to Otangarei residents Raymond and James Dunn, the brothers are still in the state house they have been asked several times to vacate.
Raymond Dunn said that although they expected Housing New Zealand Corporation (HNZC) to have started legal procedures by now, they haven't had a visit, phone call or any written communication from the country's biggest landlord.
"We knew we were being kicked out but we haven't had any papers served on us and haven't heard a word," Mr Dunn said yesterday.
The Dunns' stoush with HNZC began when their mother Rina Dunn, whose name was on the tenancy agreement of the William Jones Dr house, died in March. The brothers, who lived there with two of Raymond's children, were told then they could not stay in the family home of 25 years.
They tried to have the tenancy transferred to one of their names but HNZC said a Residential Tenancy Act change last year prevented tenancy being taken over by other family members.
