A young Whangarei man competing in a prestigious singing contest, which could catapult him into opera stardom, was busy recording no fewer than four songs late yesterday.
Kawiti Waetford, 21, was one of 12 singers to make it to the semi-finals of the demanding Lexus Song Quest.
Each singer recorded four songs in Wellington over the weekend, with judges to choose the top six to compete in the grand final with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra on August 30.
More than 50 singers auditioned for a semi-final place in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
Kawiti, a baritone, is in his third year of a Bachelor of Music with Honours at the University of Otago.
