A Far North man has been given community work after being caught drink driving twice in just over an hour, both times with more than two-and-a-half times the legal alcohol limit.
Kenneth Michael ROGERS, 41, unemployed, appeared in the Kaikohe District Court recently for sentencing on two charges of driving with excess breath alcohol.
Rogers was stopped by police at 10.25pm on SH10, Awanui, on November 11.
He had a level of 1182 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath. The legal adult limit is 400mcg.
Rogers told police he had been at a friend's house and was just driving his cousin home. Police discovered Rogers was an unlicensed driver and he was forbidden from driving until he obtained an appropriate licence.
Rogers' passenger, and owner of the Isuzu they were in, opted to drive Rogers and the vehicle home.
However, about 11.27pm police stopped the Isuzu on SH10, Awanui, again and Rogers was again behind the wheel.
He was breath tested again and this time blew 1083mcg.
He was given 100 hours' community work and disqualified from driving for nine months.
