Alternatives to treated timber

Organics Aotearoa New Zealand is co-ordinating a series of public field days around New Zealand to present alternatives to Copper Chromium Arsenate treated timber, which is no longer able to be used on properties exporting organic products to the United States.
Derek Broadmore, OANZ executive chairman, said the roadshow of five field days around New Zealand would present a range of options, including posts made from alternative timbers, concrete, steel, plastic composites and fibreglass, as well as a solution for broken posts.
CCA treated timber is commonly used on farms and orchards but, since July, has been prohibited in new or replacement construction on properties certified to the USDA National Organic Programme.
