Now in its fifth year, the Dargaville's Affordable Arts Sale is a mecca for artists and art lovers alike.
The popular event organised by Dargaville Library staff helps artists showcase their works and offers the public an affordable array of art, many with a distinctly Kaipara flavour.
Kazia Guy, whose
paintings have an African theme, is looking forward to attending her third Affordable Arts Sale and Exhibition. "It's fun and my paintings always seem to sell well there. Last year I sold 11," she says.
Up to 30 artists are expected - offering paintings, drawings, sculpture, jewellery pottery, weavings, mixed media and mosaics. They include jeweller Jenny Crundwell, fresh from her success at the Gilmore Brown Kaipara Arts Awards, local artist Rick Winslow, former Dargaville girl Charlie McLean's paintings, potter Cath Stevens and up-and-coming local artist Brigita Bell. Fans of weaving can watch weavers producing wares.
Library manager Paula Guy-Stuve says "We have had some really positive comments ... Apart from the sales it gives artists a chance to mix and mingle and for the more experienced people the chance to help and encourage the younger ones."
