Noisepop from a four-piece made up of British, Japanese and American parts, this album's sound is suitably transatlantic, albeit from a few decades back.
One of those albums that requires you to warm up your ears so you don't pull a listening muscle, Yuck harks back to the wall-of-noise sounds of the late 80s to early 90s - think Dinosaur Jr, Swervedriver or Sonic Youth - on superb opening tracks Get Away and The Wall. And the epic album closer, Rubber, piles on the distortion like New Zealand's Dead C, while Holing Out is Ride meets the Boo Radleys.
But there's also a touch of a softer side, as on Shook Down and Stutter, and at times the band could be Teenage Fanclub.
The upshot? I'm a big fan of the noisy bands on the first list, not so much Teenage Fanclub. So although the album's a good listen, it would be nice if they could bring the noise that little bit more.
