Levin Croquet Club says it boasts the largest and most beautiful facility in New Zealand.
Located in the grounds of Speldhurst Country Estate, Levin's Croquet Club now enjoys clubrooms in the restored historic Guy House and four new courts that it plans to open for national competitions.
After two years of preparation and planning, the Levin Croquet Club's new home was officially opened at the weekend with Horowhenua District Mayor Brendan Duffy and croquet life member Jean Parkin cutting the ribbon.
Mr Duffy said he enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie of the event.
"This facility is a good example of what a club can do if they put their mind to it and seek out opportunities," he said.
Levin Croquet Club member Judith Hunt said she felt they would be the envy of many clubs because of the size and style of the new facility.
Speldhurst Country Estate developer Wayne Bishop said club members Ted Anderson and Bob Eyles had put in a huge amount of effort into revamping the 110-year-old Guy House, and Mr Anderson hoped Speldhurst residents would join the club and take advantage of the new facility on their doorstep.
