Top players come to town

Dannevirke was the hub for netballers with players from around the North Island taking to the courts for the annual Viking tournament on July 7.

One of the biggest tournaments hosted in Dannevirke for some years, organisers were delighted with the support.

"We're really pleased with the turnout, with some great netball being played," Jo Blyth, administrator for the Dannevirke Netball Centre said.

And despite gale-force winds, the standard of netball was high, she said.

With teams from the Hutt Valley, Manawatu, Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay competing, there was a diverse range of competition, which was appreciated by Central Hawke's Bay players, team official Rebecca Patterson said.

"Our girls thoroughly enjoyed the tournament and they commented on the different teams on court compared to last year's tournament ... and like Feilding, we had two wins and two losses."

Richard Harrison-Kamura, manager of the Dannevirke Year 7 representative team, said his team also enjoyed the experience, but conceded the opposition was tough.

Under 15, Manawatu 1; Hutt Valley One 2; Hawke's Bay 3; Hutt Valley Two 4.

Year 8 division 1: Wairoa 1; Hastings 2 Wairarapa 3; Dannevirke invitational 4.

Year 8 division 2: Napier 1; Feilding Intermediate School 8 2; Central Hawke's Bay 3; Dannevirke 4.

Year 8: Final results following cross over finals: Napier 1; Wairoa 2; Feilding Intermediate 8 3; Hastings 4; Central Hawke's Bay 5; Wairarapa 6, Dannevirke 7; Dannevirke invitational 8.

Year 7: Hastings 1; Wairoa 2; Napier 3; Central Hawke's Bay 4 (on goal deferential) and Feilding Intermediate 5 (on goal differential), Dannevirke 6.
