Russ Winkley displayed the benefits of a stint at the North Island championships with an unbeaten run in Hawke's Bay's division one interclub table tennis competition on Tuesday night.
Two days after playing at the champs, Winkley, helped Evergreens maintain their unbeaten run with an 8-4 win over Napier. He was unbeaten in singles and doubles play.
Teammates Russell Clement and Kevin Bird were unbeaten in doubles play.
Napier's top Hawke's Bay woman, Helen Codlin, won two of her three singles matches, as did Robin Gwynn.
The other match saw the Taradale team of Tim Keogh, Hayden Wong and Kee Wah Chiu whitewash Hastings 12-0.
In division two, Napier Gold continued their winning form with a 9-3 win over Hastings One, and hold a 10-point buffer over joint second-placed Napier Tryhards and Waipawa RATZ, both on 91 points.
Napier Tryhards had an easy 11-1 win over St John's Moana Pacific Two, and Waipawa RATZ beat Taradale One 9-3. Taradale Two move into fourth place from sixth last week, after a good 9-3 win over Hastings Two.
Napier Blue scored their third win of the season after beating St John's Moana Pacific One 11-1.
Next week's Taradale One versus Taradale Two contest will be interesting in order to finalise first-round rankings. Hastings One's fifth place is at risk next week when they face off against a Waipawa RATZ.
