SHANE HURNDELL Top Hawke's Bay masters squash player Kay Glenny had more than a second world title to celebrate yesterday. Hours after the Mahora School reading recovery teacher won the women's 60plus gold medal at the World Masters Games in Canada Glenny heard her first grandchild had been born to sonDamian and daughter-in-law Sarah in Paraparaumu. Zachary Fergus Glenny gave his mother a hard time for 14 hours before arriving into the world, weighing in at 3.16kg. "It was a great day all round. Unfortunately there were no other drinkers in the household I was staying in so I had to delay the celebrations for one night," Glenny said in an e-mail home. The Hawke's Bay Lawn B1 grader won all of her five round robin matches to capture gold. In her last match yesterday Glenny beat Vancouver Island's Jacquelyn Parker in straight sets 9-5, 9-2, 9-6. In 1998 Glenny won the 50splus title when the World Masters Games were staged at Portland, Oregon. Teams play in Canada started today and Glenny was in a Kiwi side with Aucklanders Kaye Jackson and Trevor Colyer, who collected silver and bronze medals in their respective events, and Ian Gunthorpe. Upon her return home from Canada next week Glenny will have 10 weeks to prepare for a world teams tennis tournament to be held in Turkey during October. The Greendale club player is in the New Zealand 60plus women's team with Aucklander Patsy Fleming and Tauranga's Tup Cox.
