Former Hawke's Bay cueist Ramona Belmont has won the world women's under-21 pool title in the United States. Belmont, a former Ngati Kahungunu Sportsperson of the Year award winner, who has been based in Auckland for the past 18 months, beat the defending champion in her final of the Nebraskatournament, which involved 800 players in several age groups. Earlier this year she won the Oceania women's snooker title in Brisbane, the national women's nine-ball title in Auckland and the North Island Chartered Clubs women's 8-ball title in Tokoroa. In August Belmont (pictured left), 20, will play at the world under-21 snooker championships alongside Hawke's Bay players David Meier-Bailey and Ryan Knott. Meier-Bailey beat her in the final of the national under-21 tournament earlier this year. Last year Belmont finished fourth in the world women's snooker tournament and she wants to improve on that finish at the November world championships in Thailand.
