Hawke's Bay-based Brent Stone won the over-91kg class title at the World Muay Thai New Zealand national championships in Auckland last weekend.
Stone, who is trained by Dion Crouch gained automatic entry into the final when two other fighters in his division withdrew through illness and injury respectively.
The Zero Tolerance club member, who weighed in at 95.5kg, fought the 115kg Tareq and used his height and reach advantage to outpoint the experienced amatuer boxer from Auckland by a unanimous points decision.
Another Crouch-trained Zero Tolerance fighter, Natasha Bevan, finished second in her under-53kg class. In her first fight Bevan beat her taller New Plymouth opponent Fiona Whitesage by a unanimous points decision.
