At one stage, the blanket of fog descending on Petane Domain last night could have acted as a mercy rule.
Alas it lifted as Maycenvale Misfits ran riot against Advanced Construction Eskview Blue for a 7-1 thrashing.
Blues striker Claire Paget did pump one past Vale goalkeeper MalorieBartosh-Short in the 65th minute but that have been scant consolation for coach Viv Moule.
Standing for coach Leon Birnie, Chase Arquette said the Misfits" one-touch passes all over the park meant opponents had to be switched on the full 80 minutes to make any difference.
"We also had the ability to counterattack so quickly," Arquette said.
2011 league champions Vale drew first blood in just the third minute of the flood-lit match when Emma Rogers' cross found Nicole Baird unmarked on the far post to leave Eskview keeper Kelly Winkley no chance.
Five minutes later Rogers latched on to a through ball to make it 2-0.
In just the 10th minute, Jamie Curry did justice to an Aleesha Heywood cross to make it 3-0.
Just four minutes into the second spell. Baird increased the margin to 4-0 after running into the 18m box and chipping it past Winkley.
In the 57th minute, skipper Heywood made it 5-0 and a minute later from the kick-off Baird rubbed salt in the wound when she popped one from 20m out for a 6-0 lead.
Paget's goal came after Blues defender Raelene Christian dispossessed Rogers to put a ball through up front.
Unmarked Rosie Morgan's head from a Baird cornerkick summed up the game.
