When it comes to sporting pursuits, Jamie Henare has often had to take a back seat to his brother, former Tall Black and New Zealand Breakers basketballer Paul Henare.
But every now and then Jamie, 33, who played for the Hawks from 1994-97 and 2000-2001 steals a share of the limelight.
Back in 2007 Jamie hit a hole in one on the par three 16th hole at the Maraenui Golf Club and was playing off an eight handicap when he was last a member of the club.
At the weekend Jamie won the men's eight ball championship at the Taradale Club. Before beating John Dixon 4-1 in the best-of-seven frame final, he beat the winner of the title for the last six years, Rod Gray, 3-1 in the quarter-finals, and Nigel Greene 3-2 in the semifinals.
"It was a special day for me ... I dedicated my final win to Dan," said Jamie, referring to his friend and workmate Dan Kemp, who died after a heart attack recently.
Kemp, who was 33, was a chef at the Napier Cosmopolitan Club where Jamie has been a bar manager for the last eight years. Jamie has only been playing competitive eight-ball for the past two years.
"I joined the Taradale Club because they've got a good pool adjunct there. At the Napier Cosy I won the open doubles and handicap doubles in snooker with Murray Waite this year and that's the first time that's been done in 16 years," Jamie said.
Maria Terezaki won her third consecutive women's singles eight ball title at the Taradale Club during the weekend. She also won the mixed pairs title with Gray and the women's pairs title with Mandy Bryant.
Although he lost his men's singles title, Gray matched Terezaki's feat of three titles. In addition to the mixed pairs title he won the men's pairs and open pairs titles respectively with Dixon and Allen Boyd. Jayden Dunsmore won the junior singles title.
