A head-on crash on the notorious SH 50 and Omahu Rd intersection left a woman trapped in her car.

Emergency services worked to free the woman after she crashed into a utility vehicle near Fernill just after 2pm yesterday.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Hawke's Bay Hospital for further treatment and was in a stable condition.

A spokeswoman for the hospital confirmed the woman was discharged yesterday evening.

This particular intersection has a history of road accidents.

Back in October 2007, a 17-year-old Hastings woman on her way home from work died in a crash at the intersection near Fernhill.

Astrid Johanna Gulliksen was killed when her car collided with a Fernhill-bound fully-laden shingle truck at the intersection of SH50 and Omahu Rd.
