Water quality is improving across catchments in our region as a result of dairy farmers' actions, a DairyNZ spokesman says.

DairyNZ, with support from Horizons Regional Council, is inviting farmers and the community to public meetings in Dannevirke and Pahiatua to learn more about water quality in the region.

The key speaker will be Logan Brown, freshwater and partnerships manager for Horizons.

Mr Brown will present the catchment water-quality data, including the state of our waterways and the improving trends.

He said water quality was improving as a result of the actions of many stakeholders, both urban and rural.

Those at the meeting will also hear how research is providing further opportunities to improve dairy systems, with DairyNZ introducing its Future Farms project within Horizons' One Plan catchment, including the use of plantain to reduce nitrogen loss.

The meetings were another step on the journey of balancing environmental improvement and economic growth in our community, DairyNZ's Adam Duker said.
