Two people were reportedly trapped after a truck and car crashed in Napier this afternoon.

A Fire Service spokesman said emergency services were called to the incident about 12.59pm on Wakefield St in Onekawa.

He said two people were trapped in the car from the crash but were extracted.

A police spokesman said there were reports the driver of the car was trapped.

However, a St John Ambulance spokesman said the incident started after the driver of the car, an elderly man, had a medical episode.

He said the driver was transported to hospital in a serious condition, while the passenger of the car was taken to hospital in a moderate condition.

The spokesman said the truck may not have initially been involved in the incident.

Wakefield St is largely in an industrial area of Napier.
