Two men, one armed with an axe or metal bar, robbed a petrol station in Hastings last night.
Senior Sergeant Ross Smith said the men entered Shell Parkvale service station on Heretaunga Street East about 9.20pm.
They demanded cash and tobacco from the shaken attendant, before running outside and down the road.
With
their stolen goods, the men ran into Park Road North and towards a car believed to be waiting on Queen Street. The men were described as Maori, of medium height and of a solid build, with one wearing a light-coloured scarf over his face.
Mr Smith said police were looking for sightings of two suspicious men and the car in the Parkvale area.
* Anyone who has information on the robbery is asked to call Hastings police or the confidential crimeline on 0800 567 789.
