A violent burglary has landed a Napier trio lengthy prison terms.

Patrick John Haywood, 60, his son Hayden Marcus Haywood, 25, and Johanna Patricia Peterson, 35, have been jailed for their involvement in an aggravated burglary at the Napier Bluewater Hotel in Napier last year.

They appeared for sentencing in the Napier District Court last week on charges of assault with intent to rob and committing burglary with a weapon.

The two Haywoods were sentenced to 6 years' jail while Peterson was jailed for four years.

Another offender, Turei Ataria, 49, of Hastings, was earlier jailed for 8 years on the same charges in April.

The four were involved in the aggravated burglary of a 35-year-old man at a Bluewater Hotel unit in Ahuriri on February 6, 2014.

Police alleged the four attacked the victim with a pistol, which resulted in serious head injuries.

At the time, the police officer in charge of the case, Detective Sergeant Heath Jones, said it was a particularly violent assault and the victim needed a short stay in hospital.

Yesterday, Mr Jones said police were pleased with the jail terms and investigators had received a lot of help from the public in their search for the offenders.

"This was one case where the public was very forthcoming with information.

"Several people were very helpful, which made our job a lot easier.

"These people had gang connections, which also played a part in their offending," Mr Jones said.
