Hawke's Bay youngsters have just five days left to be part of the highest flying Super 15 rugby team for a day.

The Hawke's Bay Today sponsored competition will see one lucky young fan become a 'Hurricane For a Day', which will give them the opportunity to run the match ball out to the centre of McLean Park for the big June 5 clash against the Highlanders.

They will pick up a Hurricanes jersey, as well as tickets to the match for their family.

There is also the opportunity to join the Hurricanes captain's run.

After just a couple of days of the competition opening, nearly 30 entries have come in and the response is set to grow as match day draws closer.

"This is a very special competition," Hawke's Bay Today editor Andrew Austin said.

"Most of us had sporting heroes when we were young and this will be a dream come true for a lucky youngster - to have the Hurricanes playing in our backyard is something to be celebrated."

Rugby fans are in for a big night with the Hurricanes, effectively the "home" side for the Bay, emerging as the top side and a genuine contender for the Super 15 title.

So far 8500 seat tickets had already sold.

"It is a really good response so far and it's gaining traction," Hawke's Bay Rugby Union commercial manager Jay Campbell said.

He said there were less than 1000 seats left and expected them to sell within the next two days. He also expected a strong general ground admission response.

"This is the biggest match we are going to see at the park until the big Ranfurly Shield games arrive."
