Sarah and Martin from The Hits.

Sarah and Martin from The Hits.

It's officially the season! Now we can all start to celebrate what stores such as The Warehouse and Kmart have been pushing on us since March: Christmas!

Trees are going up, plans are being made and weekends are taken up by annual catch-ups with friends and family and work Christmas parties.

It must be a hard task organising the Christmas party for your workplace. You have to first decide on the venue and that is tricky because you want somewhere nice - but not too nice, so when your drunken workmates disgrace themselves it's not such a big deal.

Then you have to pick a date and for some people (namely Martin) finding a free weekend between September 1 and December 25 is tricky.

Are partners invited and if so, should they pay for themselves? Secret Santa gifts? Buffet or set menu? So many decisions!

We had our staff party on the weekend. As far as Christmas parties go it was reasonably low key but very nice.

Partners were invited but had to pay (only $30 with food and alcohol taken care of) and $5 Secret Santa gifts were required, then handed out on the night. Sarah managed to swap her packet of Russian fudge for a nice fruit bowl, so was most pleased.

While alcohol was flowing freely all night, only beer and wine were catered for, so the casualties were minimal.

Our lovely journalist Annette managed to break the photo booth, so whenever anyone took a photo Annette's face was the one printed out instead of their own.

Promo girl Hena received a small padlock as her Secret Santa gift, which someone promptly used to padlock shut the zips of her bag (hahahaha!). Hena also challenged the boss to a beer skolling competition and kicked butt but it was with zero-alcohol beer, so very responsible (the boss insisted we add the zero-alcohol bit).

Sarah managed to trip over a bike once she got home and really hurt her hand. She claims it had nothing to do with the alcohol consumed and everything to do with it being dark and the bike being placed in front of a doorway ... but it was probably the alcohol.
