Over the weekend of Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11 the Waipukurau Tennis and Squash Club is celebrating the completion of three new Astro-turf courts, as well as opening its gates and doors to the public as part of the "I Love Tennis" weekend, a nationwide initiative by Tennis NZ to introduce new people to their local tennis clubs.
Central Hawke's Bay mayor Alex Walker is attending the opening ceremony at 1pm on the Saturday, after which the club will open its gates to the public.
The club will be open both days from 1pm-4pm for the "I Love Tennis" weekend. The aim of Tennis NZ is to entice new and returning players to pick up a racquet.
There will be a coffee cart at the club on the Saturday, a barbecue provided, fun tennis activities to join in – for the kids and seniors (racquets provided).
Vouchers, prizes and much more will be given out and the club will put on some exhibition tennis with juniors on court playing and members participating in Ladies' Cardio Tennis and Men's Fit Tennis. The squash courts will be open too, to have a hit of squash, with existing members on site to help out.
The tennis club is grateful for funding and support from the following local sponsors and regional trusts: Centralines, Vet Services (HB), Eastern & Central Community Trust, Grassroots Trust Central Ltd – formerly Infinity Foundation.
These businesses have helped raise the funds needed to replace the old and tired Astro-turf courts.
By attending a participating Love Tennis club on Saturday or Sunday, you will have the chance to win a trip for two to experience the best of southern hospitality and top quality tennis at one of New Zealand's most stunning locations -Te Anau.
