Some 80 students from Hawke's Bay high schools converged on CHB for a careers day with a twist last week.
At last Wednesday's Hawke's Bay Dairy Industry Big Day Out at the BEL Group-owned Cloverlea Farm in Takapau, students took part in a milking-shed demonstration, calf feeding and tree planting,and learned about farm machinery and milk-tanker technology.
The day involved Year 10 students from Dannevirke High School, Central Hawke's Bay College, Flaxmere College, Taradale High School, Napier Boys' High School and Napier Girls' High School
An initiative of the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), the day also involved local employers, industry and educators including Fonterra, BEL Group, AGRICOM, Hawke's Bay Regional Council, Central Hawke's Bay and Hastings district councils, Tararua Vets, Young Farmers, Primary ITO and EIT.
"The aim of the day was to showcase the fantastic career opportunities available across the dairy sector," said the Tertiary Education Commission's acting chief executive, Brendan Kelly.
