Napier Aquahawks' Ruby Adsett topped the Hawke's Bay medal count with eight at the national age-group swimming championships, which ended in Wellington at the weekend.

On the final night of the champs on Saturday Adsett was one of three HB swimmers in the HBPB 15 years girls medley relay team that won gold.

Her clubmate Kaitlyn Cotter and Greendale's Bobbi Gichard were the others. Adsett also won silver in her 100m freestyle final in a HBPB record time of 58.86s.

Gichard, who finished the five-day nationals with five medals, also won silver in her 50m backstroke final with a HBPB record of 29.26s.

Central Hawke's Bay's Bevan Jacobs won silver in his 13 years 1500m freestyle final in 18m49.40s.
