Napier's Pacific Beach ocean viewing platform was transformed into a gateway to Easter and autumn with a Good Friday floral makeover — aka a flower-bombing.
Ultimately a collaboration between enterprise group Napier City Business, the Napier City Council, local florists, and volunteers it stemmed from an idea proposed by Napierwoman Laura Jeffares as City Business social media manager Sally Crown went looking for social media influencers who were passionate about Napier.

On Friday it bloomed into flower arrangements on both flanks of the platform, which would have one of its busy days of the year on which the Napier seafront would have been at its picturesque best even without the adornments.
Crown said she first "reached out" to Jeffares because of Jeffares' "strong social media presence" and it was soon afterwards that they met to discuss floral stylist Jeffares' idea for a flower-bombing of the city.

It became possible when they latched-onto the city council's Activator Champions initiative, seeking out public ideas for making Napier "a more, cool and vibrant place".
The flower gang started arranging the arrangements about 7am on Friday and was soon attracting the attention of passersby, some of whom wondered if there was going to be a Good Friday wedding on the platform, or was it just someone finding something else to do with a few flowers.
There was no wedding but plenty came anyway, with about 50 on the platform at any time during the afternoon.
The arrangements will be dismantled and where practicable bunched-up and distributed to churches, retirement homes and charities.
