The best of a yarding of mostly ewe lambs continued to sell well at yesterday's Stortford Lodge store sale.

However, smaller lambs went off the boil as the risk of them cutting their teeth before they are finished rises.

Prices for a big yarding of ewes with lambs at foot also eased. Most of the lambs were younger and the ewes lighter than in previous weeks.

In the cattle sale a small yarding also sold well with a pen of 471kg 3-year angus-hereford steers making $3.16/kg.

Buyers for the about 220 cattle and 3000 sheep were from Hawke's Bay, Rangitikei and Masterton.

Prime sale

A big yarding of more than 2000 lambs continued to sell on a strong market at Monday's sale.

Most of the lambs were top quality which was reflected in the number of pens breaking the $200 mark.

Three pens of ewes in a small yarding also broke the $200 mark as prices help up as well.
In the cattle sale the yarding of 51 head was strong as well with six pens of oxen or heifers making $3.04/kg or better.
