His title prize was a seven-night holiday in Rarotonga. Meechan said he was likely to take his father Nick Meechan as he did the bulk of the work on his car.
A fourth-year driver in the class, Meechan, 33, said the two consecutive titles have made him keener to race alongside McLachlan and the other Hawke's Bay Hawkeyes in the future.
"I know I have to be patient because they are going pretty well at the moment."
Hawke's Bay husband-and-wife duo Kim and Kerry Johnston were unbeaten on the way to winning the nine-crew Hawke's Bay sidecar championship. They won both of their heats and the winner-take-all final.
Like Meechan, it was a second consecutive title for Kim Johnston who won it with Clinton Durbin as his swinger last year.
Two firsts and a second placing saw Rob Simmons win the Hawke's Bay kiwilite championship by five points from his Hawke's Bay Speedway Club clubmate Courtney Edgar.
Like the Johnstons, Hawke's Bay saloon driver Tim Towler won all three of his handicap races in a five-strong mixed saloon and super saloon class.
Hawke's Bay's former national TQ class champion Craig Todd recorded a 16.5-second lap time on the way to two firsts in a six-strong class. His cousin Duane Todd won the other heat.
The Hawke's Bay trio of Jakob Flynn, Thomas Flynn and Caleb Churchward all had turns at victory laps in a 14-strong ministock class.
