It may have been friendly competition but you wouldn't have guessed it when it came time for the prize-winning pups to have their photoshoot yesterday.
Winner of the Bissell Pet Idol competition, a Siberian husky called Krypto, beat hundreds of dogs, cats, birds and even a frog for the title, but was in no mood to relax and reflect on the triumph.
Krypto and the third placegetter, a staffy from Flaxmere called BMA (pronounced Beemer, like the nickname for owner Rosalie Selwood's car), were at each other's throats from the moment they met.
All hopes of getting a cute photo of the first, second and third place-winners were dashed.
Krypto's owner Michelle said when there were other dogs around there was no chance of getting Krypto to sit down.
"I was totally expecting that," she said.
The 14-month-old dog, which lives in Napier, received text votes from Michelle's family, friends, neighbours and work colleagues.
Krypto was described by her owner as high in energy, constantly on the go and gentle in nature.
First prize was a Petwash Carpet Washer, Spotlifter and accessories.
It was a prize that would come in handy for cleaning up after Krypto, who was also good at moulting.
The second prize-winner was a chihuahua called Opossum from Napier.
