The pair made their first ITM Cup appearances at home in a shield defence against Otago.
"It was very cool, I've always wanted to be a Magpie since I was young," Long said.
"It was a pretty proud moment to debut together."
Chase had a dream debut as the Magpies thrashed Otago 41-0.
Chase showcased his pace and class by scoring a cracker of a try, setting up another, and defusing all bombs sent his way.
"I definitely have had a lot of support from family and friends," he said.
Assistant coach Danny Lee had told him to just go out and show what he could do.
"He believed in me and it was great to be able to repay that faith.
"First and foremost, I want to play more consistent and quality football for Hawke's Bay and then try to strive for higher honours."
Chase was part of the 2015 Hurricanes wider training squad.
Long will look to cement his spot in the side this season.
"As far as team goals, we want to retain the shield. Personally, I'd just like to see more game time and make sure I'm in that match 23 every week."
The pair are revelling in having the experience of former All Black Zac Guildford to tap in to.
"He just has so much knowledge it's awesome having him around," Long said. Guildford returns to Hawke's Bay after a stint for Clermont in France.
