Hawke's Bay rowers Ed Laver and Tom Mackintosh were in the Kiwi coxed four which won bronze at the junior world championship in Germany at the weekend.
Napier Boys' High School's Laver had the stroke role and Lindisfarne College's Mackintosh was in the No 3 seat alongside Hugo Elworthy of
Christ College, William Morris-Whyte of Rangiora High School and cox Matt Wylie of Auckland Grammar School. They finished two seconds behind silver medallists Great Britain and six seconds behind gold medallists Italy.
"They put their heart and soul into it. Any medal at world championships level is a wonderful achievement," Hawke's Bay Rowing Club club captain Ross Webb said.
The third Bay rower at the champs, Hannah Bailey, combined with Te Awamutu College's Luka Ellery to win the B final of the junior women's double which gave them an overall placing of seventh.
Webb says these results are further proof his club is a pathway to the elite level in the sport.
