It was a castle fit for a king and made completely out of recyclable material marking World Environment Day at the Hastings Library.
Sisters Grace, 14, Holly, 8, Sarah, 10 and Abbey Davison, 12, visited the library to find a good book but instead decided to enter the library's Waste Not
Sculpture Competition.
Their creation, entitled "Flimsy Castles" was built out of recycled material from the Waste Exchange shop in Hastings. The shop has a register of recycled materials and connects "people with trash", said Carla Crosbie, co-ordinator for the Hastings district libraries.
The competition winner was Alex Heperi, 15, of Hastings, who used foil, flax, paper and the off-cut of a bench top to create a kite, symbolising Matariki.
The teen's creation will be displayed at the Hawke's Bay Exhibition Centre in Hastings over the next week and the other entries will be on show at Hastings Library.
A mosaic competition was also held at Flaxmere Library and the creations will be on display there over the next week.
