Unison Networks says restoring power to customers in rural parts of Hawke's Bay is making good progress, with most expected to be restored to the distribution network yesterday evening.
"We've been making good progress on site and are hopeful that by [yesterday] evening about 90 per cent of those customers originally affected in rural Hawke's Bay will be restored," said relationship manager Danny Gough.
This would leave about 20 customers still without power, mainly along Waitara Rd and the end of State Highway 5.
"We are hoping the majority of those remaining without power will be restored by the end of [today]."
For those few customers who may be without power longer than expected, generators had been offered, and some had already been delivered, he said.
"We connected a 100kVA network generator out by the Tarawera Cafe yesterday, and have delivered some portable generators to pockets of isolated customers.
"The weather-bomb certainly took its toll on our network, but our team has worked in tough conditions to carry out necessary repairs so customers could get power again."
