Police are calling for witnesses to a serious assault in Wairoa earlier this week to come forward.

Shortly before 1am on Sunday, May 12, a man went to Wairoa Hospital after receiving stab wounds outside a residential address on Lion St.

The 27-year-old was discharged from Hawke's Bay Hospital on Wednesday.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Ford said they wanted to hear from anyone who was at that address or in that area of Wairoa early on Sunday morning.

"Police would like to reassure the community that this is an isolated incident and there will be a larger police presence in the area," he said.
